Department Head: Mr. Mike Lackie
In order to graduate, students need to complete two Science courses and one
additional Science course or a Technical course.
Students in Grades 9 and 10 may take courses at the
essential, applied or academic levels. These courses all include aspects of
Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Sciences.
Starting in Grade 11, the Science courses become
specialized. Our grade 11 workplace course deals with Environmental Science.
College levels courses include Grade 11 Biology and Grade 12 Physics and
Chemistry. Grade 11 Chemistry, Biology and Physics academics courses act as
prerequisites for the same courses at the grade 12 University level.
Many of the courses at the senior levels are needed to
enter a variety of college and university programs. Students need to keep track
of what is required for future plans.
At all levels, the ELSS Science Department provides a
mixture of theoretical work, lab activities, and practical applications to help
the students make connections to the world around them.
