Let's get social!  Students taking courses in this dynamic department learn about human behaviour, history and psychology, about Canadian geography, Canadian law, environmental and social justice issues worldwide, civic responsibility, ethical tourism, career options galore and so much more!

The two main branches in the social sciences are Canadian and World Studies, and The Humanities.  Out teachers have a wealth of experience and an impressive diversity of educational backgrounds in both of these fields to offer our students in the classroom.

Teaching strategies include computer slide show presentations of lessons, history museum projects, textbook, library and computer research assignments, cooperative learning, mock legal trials, and computer simulations of managing developing countries, to name just a few.  We include diverse teaching strategies for different learning styles in order to inspire students to dig deeper into the social issues of today.  Field trips are an integral part of Social Science courses in grades 10 to 12 taking our students to the Career Symposium in Sudbury, to Lake State University's Library, the United Nations in New York City, and on extended trips overseas.
